Custom Job Purpose
This position exists to provide independent appraisals as a service to the School Board by providing information encompassing the adequacy and effectiveness of the district's system of internal controls and the quality of performance in carrying out Board assigned responsibilities. The School Board Internal Auditor will furnish the School Board with analyses, evaluations, recommendations, counsel and information concerning the activities reviewed.
Essential Functions of this Job
Responsible for all internal auditing activities assigned by the Senior Internal Auditor and established by the Board. Plans or assists the Senior Internal Auditor in preparing the audit programs. Examines and evaluates financial records and operational areas to ensure conformity with generally accepted accounting principles, Federal and State laws, Board Rules, administrative directives, procedure manuals, and best business practices. Performs financial, operational and performance audits and special reviews. Evaluates a system's effectiveness and efficiency through the application of the auditor's knowledge of business systems. Prepares written audit reports and discusses the report with the appropriate administrators and appraises the adequacy of the corrective action taken to improve deficient conditions. Conducts special investigations as required. Must always be aware of fraud indicators, be alert to opportunities that could allow fraud, and evaluate the need for additional investigation.

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or related field. Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor preferred. Considerable experience in accounting and/or auditing preferred. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and practices, and their application to all School Board functions. Ability to gain considerable knowledge of School Board operation and accounting procedures. Knowledge of computerized accounting and proficiency with personal computer spreadsheet applications. Ability to perform auditing duties involving written or numeric data. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with School Board personnel. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.
Work Context
Requires some sitting and standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires work with internal and external contacts, and with the public.
Physical Environment
Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Requires sitting for the majority of the day, and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects infrequently weighing up to 20 pounds.
