Position Title

Custodial Equip Repair

Custom Job Purpose

Completes custodial equipment repair and maintenance actions as directed by the Lead Custodial Repairman to insure that the custodial equipment functions as designed and intended. Through a formalized preventive and corrective maintenance program insure that custodial equipment is electrically and mechanically safe for use.

Essential Functions of this Job

Perform any duties within the scope or capabilities as assigned by the Lead Custodial Equipment Repairman. Operates vehicles in a safe and lawful manner. Repairs and maintains custodial equipment to include: Root/Buffers, Vacuums, Sweepers, and Carpet extractors. Perform service and repair of lawn mowers, blowers and trimmers, edgers, etc. Complete ServiceMaster Quarterly Preventive Maintenance Inspection log. Completes minor electrical repairs such as maintenance and replacement of a variety of electrical switches, brushes, plugs, electric motors. Reviews and understands the ServiceMaster Equipment Care Manual. Performs safety checks to insure that equipment does not harm or present a hazard to employees, students or visitors to the facility. Evaluates new equipment as assigned, provides recommendations and suggestions on equipment repair procedures which will serve to benefit the custodial program in Polk County Schools.

Qualifications

Graduation from high school or trade school or completion of GED. Training in small engine and motor repair. Considerable experience in the servicing and repair of small engines and motors, and other electrical and mechanical equipment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Understanding of "electrically safe" aspects necessary to avoid personal injury through electrical shock. Knowledge and observance of safety precautions. Ability to interpret mechanical instruction, schematic drawings and specifications. Ability to use simple measuring instruments (electrical safety meter). Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment. Capable of performing basic troubleshooting. VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIRED: Must have a valid driver's license appropriate to the vehicles assigned to the trade and be qualified to drive a School Board Vehicle.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the repair and servicing of small engines, motors and mechanical equipment. Ability to diagnose and correct problems of a mechanical nature in small engines and motors. Ability to read and understand schematic drawings. Knowledge of the maintenance and servicing of a variety of small motors and mechanical devices. Ability to maintain records relating to service and repair orders.
