Position Title

Supervisor - Architectural Services

Custom Job Purpose

This position exists to manage and control the design activities on in-house building projects.

Essential Functions of this Job

Assists in coordination of design and preparation of construction or bidding documents for small projects, such as: cooler freezer additions, toilet additions, kitchen expansions, office or classroom remodeling, ceiling and lighting replacements, re-roofing projects, new paving and repaving projects and any other not specified construction activity. Directs operations of drafting room. Sets priorities and assigns projects to drafting technicians, organizes training, establishes project cost and prepares documents for facilities staff review. Assists the Director, Architectural Services in matters related to D.O.E., project inspections and code interpretations and procedures.

Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited college or university with Architectural, Engineering or Construction Management degree or field acquired expertise in above disciplines.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Thorough knowledge and understanding of design and construction principles and procedures as applied to educational facilities, knowledge of scheduling, estimating and cost control. Ability to interpret and assist in administering contracts, D.O.E. requirements and all pertaining codes and ordinances. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.

Work Context

Requires sitting and some standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires coordinating or leading others in accomplishing work activities. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires work with both internal and external contacts, and with the public.

Physical Environment

Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Requires sitting for the majority of the day, and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects infrequently weighing up to 20 pounds.
