Position Title
Maintenance Trade Associate
Custom Job Purpose
This position exists to provide operational support to skilled maintenance trades and to assist employees in gaining hands-on, on-the-job training and practical experience. The role is intended to support the development of practical skills necessary for career advancement within the maintenance trades, enabling employees to progress into trade positions with the district or pursue opportunities elsewhere as experience and qualifications are achieved.
Essential Functions of this Job
Provides direct support to journeyman or other skilled maintenance and construction technicians in performing duties related to the construction, maintenance, or repair of buildings, structures, and associated equipment.
• Performs assigned tasks under the guidance and supervision of skilled trades personnel in order to gain hands-on, on-the-job training and experience.
• Maintains accurate daily records and logs of work performed.
• Operates trucks and other light equipment, if qualified as a driver for the district.
• Utilizes and communicates using a two-way radio and other approved communication methods.
• Utilizes tools, equipment, and materials common to maintenance and construction activities in a safe and appropriate manner.
• Assists with preparing work areas, transporting materials, staging equipment, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
• Demonstrates initiative and a commitment to skill development consistent with progression toward a skilled trade role.

Qualifications
• Graduation from high school, completion of a GED, or trade school is required.
• Graduation from an accredited trade school is preferred.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license appropriate to the vehicles that may be assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Basic knowledge of the use and care of tools and equipment.
• Ability to perform work involving physical strength and endurance.
• Ability to withstand exposure to variable weather conditions.
• Ability and willingness to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees and supervisors.
• Ability to keep daily records and logs.
• One year of experience in maintenance work is preferred.
• Certificate of completion/graduation from a maintenance trades program is preferred.
• Bilingual/biliterate preferred.
Work Context
Requires standing, walking, and moving about to coordinate work.
• Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams.
• Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals, and meet deadlines.
• Requires work with both internal and external contacts, and with the public.
• Requires the use of alternative communication systems such as electronic mail, telephones, and computers.
• Requires travel to school locations and work sites within the district.
Physical Environment
Requires standing for the majority of the day, and the ability to frequently lift, carry, move, and/or position objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• May infrequently be required to lift more than 50 pounds with assistance as needed.
• Requires working both indoors and outdoors.
• Requires the proper use of personal protective devices and equipment as assigned.
