Custom Job Purpose

The purpose of this job is to perform the coordination of Exceptional Student Education Programs relating to the varying exceptionalities for a service area. Collaborates with principals, teachers, support personnel, district staff, and parents to ensure appropriate implementation of Exceptional Student Education programs to provide ongoing technical assistance to schools and teachers in the area of teacher training. Ability to prepare and manage a budget. Ability to diffuse a violent, intense and/or volatile situation/crisis. Supervise and evaluate itinerant personnel.

Essential Functions of this Job

All duties performed in cooperation and collaboration with the Director of Exceptional Student Education. Monitor/assist with the development and implementation of quality educational programming for all students through Individualized Education Plans, individualized curriculum, and the comprehensive re-evaluation and annual review process. Supervise and evaluate assigned ESE itinerant instructional and non-instructional personnel. Assist with selection of textbooks, material, and equipment needed at assigned schools. Maintain high visibility in schools and classrooms. Maintain open and quality communication with all area schools, district office, Agencies, and Community personnel and district office personnel. Provide data and financial reports to district office. Monitor the implementation of district's testing program with ESE students. Develop and maintain positive school/community relations and provide for liaison between school and community. Ensure and monitor compliance procedures with personnel/contractual policies and student accounting. Facilitate staff meetings/communication for the purpose of keeping staff informed concerning policy changes, instructional programs and resolution of existing problems. Provide unique, specialized and comprehensive staff development, resources, and equipment to ensure quality programs for exceptional education students. Actively participate in conferences/training/staff development meetings for professional growth. Provide leadership and serve as a liaison for the transition of students from more restrictive educational settings to less restrictive educational settings. Monitor the transportation service needs of the students to include, but not limited to safety, rapid/individual transit, bus monitor and other special services as they relate to the exceptional education population. Monitor the safe implementation of non-violent restraint procedures during periods of violence and/or extreme non-compliance by students which present an immediate threat to themselves or others.

Qualifications

A master's degree from an accredited educational institution is required. Certification in administration and supervision or Educational Leadershipor credentials in the specified service area that allow supervision (i.e:. American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA), American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), American Occupational Therapy Association),is required. Certification in Exceptional Student Educationor the designated service areaandworkexperience in the area of Exceptional Student Education isstrongly preferred .

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of exceptional education rules and regulations as defined by local, State and federal mandates. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.

Work Context

Requires some sitting and standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires work with both internal and external contacts, and with the public.

Physical Environment

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
