Position Title
Specialist - Certification
Custom Job Purpose
This position exists to perform highly responsible and specialized work in the area of human resources.
Essential Functions of this Job
Assists in all activities involving state and district certification and compliance. Determines certification status of teachers with expiring temporary certificates. Assists with certification and compliance workshops. Advise teachers on certification issues and concerns including criteria to be met in order to achieve Certified, and Qualified status. Processes and maintains teacher transfer list to ensure Title I schools are staffed with teachers who have met all criteria necessary to be Certified and Qualified. Processes all applications and supporting documentation for state certification. Tracks all subject area testing scores for add-on certificate applications, and notifies proper departmental personnel. Advises teachers regarding renewal and statutory requirements. Processes renewals of state professional certificates online through the Department of Education database. Maintains files for certification audit purposes.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is preferred. At least 6+ years of experience in human resource services, law, statutory compliance or related area.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of certification law and requirements. Considerable knowledge of district human resource services procedures and practices. Ability to prepare and maintain complex manual and automated records. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with other employees and public. Ability to express oneself effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to supervise subordinate employees and evaluate their work. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.
Work Context
Requires some sitting and standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires work with students, internal and external contacts, and with the public.
Physical Environment
Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Requires sitting for the majority of the day, and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects infrequently weighing up to 20 pounds.
