Custom Job Purpose
This position exists to provide leadership for the Registered Nurse lesson component of the Health, Substance Abuse, and Violence Prevention curriculum and Health Services office in the school system.
Essential Functions of this Job
Organizes, facilitates, and integrates the Prevention Educator R.N. component of the Health Education Program and Health Services available with all other phases of the school system. In cooperation with Health Education/Health Services personnel and other school personnel, facilitates an understanding of how Health/Prevention Education and Health Services are important aspects in the lives of school personnel, students, and parents. Organizes, plans, and/or attends meetings, workshops, and inservice training for school personnel. Develops, organizes, implements, and evaluates Prevention Education R.N. lessons. Serves as a resource for school personnel, students, and parents in areas of health services and prevention education. Participates in preparing reports for the Department of Health and Department of Education. Updates School Board Policies related to health issues. Provides inservice education about health related issues. Assists and refers all schools during medical, health emergencies, and crises. Provides consultation to registered nurses, directs licensed practical nurses, and supervises unlicensed assistive personnel (clinic aides/health contacts) within the school system. Develops curriculum and provides training for clinic LPNs, school board health clinic aides and health contacts. Coordinates and monitors CPR/AED/First Aid trainings provided by the Mark Wilcox Center and oversees the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Program. File and retain all documantation related to all services provided to students including, but not limited to, any insurance or Medicaid claims.

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field and a minimum of three years of nursing experience. Master's degree is preferred. Prefer additional background in curriculum development, teaching and classroom management also. Valid Florida license as a registered nurse is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of School Board Policy as it relates to educational programs, comprehensive health issues, school health services, and school health requirements. Ability to plan, organize, monitor, and implement programs. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and tactfully, both orally and in writing. Must be able to establish and maintain good working relationships with school personnel, parents, and students. Flexible to travel throughout the school system. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.
Work Context
Requires some sitting and standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires work with students, internal and external contacts, and with the public.
Physical Environment
Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Requires sitting, standing, moving about, and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects frequently weighing up to 20 pounds and infrequently weighing more than 20 pounds. Requires travel to schools and worksites within the district.
