TRST, Prevention Educator (RN)
Custom Job Purpose
This position exists to perform collaboratively with Health Education personnel, administrators, teachers and community representatives and assumes responsibility in the development, implementation and evaluation of the Health, Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention Curriculum with special emphasis on the nurse lesson component of the curriculum within the school system.
Essential Functions of this Job
Facilitates an understanding of how Health/Prevention Education is an important aspect in the quality of one's life. Serves as a resource person for school personnel, students and parents on health related issues. Develops, implements and evaluates the Health, Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention curriculum with special emphasis on the nurse lesson component of the curriculum within the school system. Delivers health curriculum/services to students within the school system. Serves on curriculum review committees to write and update the curriculum. Provides leadership skills in systematically scheduling nurse lessons and parent previews in the schools. Serves as a mentor/trainer for new Registered Nurses working with the Health, Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention curriculum throughout the school system. Conducts/Attends meetings, workshops and inservice training for school personnel. Serves as a resource person for school personnel, students and parents in areas of Prevention Education and health related issues. Collects, submits, analyzes data as requested. Writes reports for DOE/DOH as requested. File and retain all documantation related to all services provided to students including, but not limited to, any insurance or Medicaid claims.

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or a related area. Three to five years of related nursing experience required. Background in curriculum development, presenting workshops, inservice education or teaching is highly desired. Valid Florida license as a registered nurse required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of school educational programs, school health services and related areas is desired. Ability to develop, plan, organize, schedule, implement and evaluate the Health Substance and Violence Prevention Curriculum with emphasis on the nurse lessons in the school system. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship and training with other R.N.'s in subject specialty. Ability to communicate effectively with parents, students, school personnel and community agency personnel. Flexible to travel throughout the school system. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.
Work Context
Requires some sitting and standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires work with students, internal and external contacts, and with the public.
Physical Environment
Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Requires sitting for the majority of the day, and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects infrequently weighing up to 20 pounds. Requires travel to schools and worksites within the district.
