Position Title

Tire Technician

Custom Job Purpose

This position exists to perform responsible work in mainting tire inventory and petroleum products at three service center locations for school board fleet.

Essential Functions of this Job

The position involves tire changing, repairs and delivery of tires and petroleum products. Maintains perpetual inventory records, stock and order inventory. Maintains and cares for department tools and equipment. Changes tires, brands tires and repairs tubes. Cleans assigned working area and maintains all needed equipment. Properly disposes of all discarded parts and materials. Operates vehicles in a safe and lawful manner. Performs road side service as needed. Must be able to perform physical tasks as set forth in the Physical Environment section of this document.

Qualifications

Graduation from high school or completion of GED. Tire inventory experience. Some experience in mechanic training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the practice, materials, methods and tools in tire trade. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job. Ability to follow DER (Department of Environmental Regulation), EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), and OSHA (Occupational Health and Safety Administration) guidelines as to handling, storing and disposing of waste materials. Ability in the use and care of tools and equipment common to the tire trade. Appropriate State of Florida Driver's License. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.

Work Context

Requires standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines.

Physical Environment

Requires standing and sitting, and the ability to frequently lift and/or carry 20 - 50 pounds, move and/or position objects weighing 100 - 150 pounds using assistance or equipment as needed. Requires working both indoors and outdoors. Requires exposure to outdoor elements, including weather changes, foliage, and insects. Requires the handling and use of cleaning solvents and solutions. Requires the proper use of personal protective devices and equipment as assigned.
