Custom Job Purpose
This position exists to perform skilled work in the maintenance, repair and installation of locks.
Essential Functions of this Job
Installs and repairs locks and mechanical hardware. Disassembles door locks and panic hardware to repair or replace worn tumblers, springs and other parts. Utilizes lock picking tools to open door locks without keys. Opens locks and makes keys using hand tools and special equipment. Shortens tumblers, using file and inserts new or repaired tumblers into lock to change core structure. Cuts new or duplicate keys using key cutting machine. Inserts new or repaired tumblers into lock to change key combination. Safe installation, repair and maintenance. Updates and maintains master key system. Knowledge of electronic access equipment. Will drive throughout county to schools in response to work orders and emergency calls. Uses and maintains tools and equipment. Keeps daily records and logs of work performed. Must be able to perform physical tasks as set forth in the Physical Environment section of this document.

Qualifications
Graduation from high school, completion of GED, or trade school. Must have a valid driver's license appropriate to the vehicles assigned to the trade and be qualified to drive a School Board vehicle.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of the standard methods, practices, tools and materials of the locksmith craft. Ability to make inspection of door locks, panic bars and related equipment to determine defects and needed repairs. Ability to follow oral and written instructions without immediate supervision. Skill in the use of tools and equipment employed in the locksmith trade. Ability to keep daily records and logs. Minimum three years practical experience in the repair and installation of locks under a licensed locksmith is preferred. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.
Work Context
Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires work with internal and external contacts, and with the public.
Physical Environment
Requires working both indoors and outdoors. Requires sitting, standing, walking about and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects frequently weighing up to 50 pounds. May infrequently be required to lift more than 50 pounds with assistance as needed. Requires travel to schools and worksites within the district.
